Updated October 13, 2012 - The 2011-12 Track & Field season will feature eight seven home meets for the Captains and they will host three major high school invitationals. The Indoor Season will include the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships and two of the high school invitationals. Outdoors, CNU will be a host site for the newly forming Commonwealth Duals – featuring head-to-head competition with several of Virginia’s Division III squads.
Captains Announce 2011-12
Home & Hosted Track & Field Meet Schedule
The Freeman Center’s Vince Brown Track and the Irwin Belk Track at Pomoco Stadium will serve as host to a dozen eleven Track & Field meets in the 2011-12 seasons.
The Captains have five home meets on the Indoor 200m oval, including the Mason-Dixon Conference Championships in February. The High School Winter Frolic and High School Showcase meets are two of the biggest in the region with over 50 schools typically participating in each with several National Top-10 Performances being produced over the years.
Outdoors, the Commonwealth Duals will get their start at Pomoco Stadium on the last weekend of March. Lynchburg College, Mary Washington, Virginia Wesleyan, and Washington & Lee are scheduled to compete in the multi-dual meet where each team will score head-to-head against each of the others. The Blue & Silver Challenge - normally slated for mid-April - and the New Captain's Classic & Combined Events meet - normally in May - will be consolidated for 2012 on April 21st with the Decathlon and Heptathlon finishing on April 22nd.
As with the Indoor high school invitationals, the 28th Annual HS Captain’s Classic draws teams from throughout the Commonwealth and beyond to the newly rebuilt facility. The Belk Track will also host the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools Championships in May.
