Women’s Team Recognized as All-Academic Team

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) honored the year’s Cross Country runners who performed to the same high levels in the classroom as they demonstrated at the 2010 Region Championships. Individuals who made the All-Region teams (top 35 finishers at the Championships) and maintained a 3.30 cumulative GPA through the fall term were named to the All-Academic Team.

170 student-athletes from 82 schools earned the recognition including three Captains. Junior Dira Hansen (Culpeper, VA), freshman Erin Rolaf (Woodbridge, VA), and junior Jade Zaharoff (Vienna, VA) finished 16th, 19th, and 20th, respectively at the South/Southeast Region Championships to earn their All-Region medals and all three are high performers in the classrooms of Christopher Newport University, too. For Hansen, it is her third All-Academic Team recognition (two for Cross Country and one for Track & Field).

The women’s team posted a 3.28 cumulative GPA through the fall semester. That adds All-Academic Team honors to their third place finish at the Region Championships. 2010 marks the fourth year in a row the women have earned this accolade.
