TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- With a strong effort at the NCAA Championships, Ray Gamache capped off his decorated cross country career in style as the senior standout placed 83rd during the national meet at the Lavern Gibson XC Course on Saturday morning.

Competing against 279 of the nation's top runners, Gamache recorded his top-90 performance after crossing the line in 25:34. He was just 30 seconds off an All-American pace and barely a minute behind the eventual champion.

His effort at the national meet puts the punctuation mark on a sensational senior season. The two-time defending USA South Runner of the Year, Gamache captured his second straight conference title last month and placed fifth at the South / Southeast Regional Meet. Selected to the All-Region team, he holds the fastest 6k clocking in the conference this season and the top-three 8k times after his performance on Saturday.

Overall, Gamache was the first member of the men's team to compete in the NCAA Championships since David Woodson in 2008. Jade Zaharoff represented the women at last year's meet.
