2010 CNU XC Schedule Released

Christopher Newport University named Patty Ley the Head Cross Country Coach starting with the 2010 fall season. She came to CNU in January of 2010 as an assistant coach leading the distance runners during the Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field season. She has already made a positive impact helping the distance squad win 6 Conference Titles with Elizabeth Bissell (Wyckoff, NJ) named Outstanding Track Athlete at the outdoor championships for her 5k/10k sweep. Indoors, they earned 9 CNU All-Time Rankings plus the School Record in the women's Distance Medley Relay. Outdoors, they added 14 more All-Time Rankings plus School Records in the women's 4x800m Relay and men's Steeplechase.

Recognized as one of the top developmental distance coaches in the country, she was named to the USATF World Cross Country Team Staff as the Head Coach for the Junior Women's team. That squad placed 6th at the World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland last March.

With CNU XC, she inherits USA South Conference Championships winning streaks of 17 years for the men and 11 for the women. The women's team missed a team berth to Nationals by one spot with their 3rd place finish at the South/Southeast Region Championships last year. The men return nearly their entire 2009 roster and have added a few promising rookies as they prepare to extend their Conference streak and return to the upper ranks of the Region. Even after graduating three All-Region runners from the 2009 team, the very young women's squad still looks to extend their season another week to the National Championships.

This year's schedule opens once again with a dual meet at Virginia Wesleyan College. The Captains will use four other meets to prepare for the Conference, Region, and National Championship meets, including the William & Mary Open on October 16th at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg. The complete schedule is online at CNUsports.com and the CNU TFXC Team Website.
